Area Walking Group: April 2021

FREE | Thursdays at 6:00 pm |All ages and levels of fitness are welcome!

 

Join us on Thursdays at 6:00 pm to explore your community with a new route each week. Sign

up to receive email notification of cancellation due to inclement weather or government order.

We will follow social distancing guidelines; please wear a facemask.

 

April 1, 6pm: Meadows Learning Center & Ruby Green Space, Rochester Hills

1435 W. Auburn Road, Rochester Hills (south side of Auburn between Crooks & Livernois)

We’ll meet in the parking lot in front of the Meadows Learning Center (formerly Avondale

Meadows Upper Elementary school) on Auburn Road in front of the school bus lot and then

make our way to Hackett Pocket Park, also known as the Ruby Green Space. Distance: 2 miles.

 

April 8, 6pm: Joseph Delia Park & Sterling Heights Nature Trail, Sterling Heights

3001 18 Mile Rd, Sterling Heights (north side of 18 Mile between Dequindre & Ryan)

Enter Delia Park from 18 Mile Road, drive past the baseball diamonds, and we’ll meet in the

second parking lot on your right. We’ll follow the new Sterling Heights Nature Trail along the

Gibson Drain, through open fields and wooded spaces. Distance: 2 – 4 miles.

 

April 15, 6pm: Shelby Twp. Hike & Bike Trail, Shelby Township

Park in the lot on the northeast corner of Dequindre & 25 Mile (near Big Apple Bagels)

From the parking lot, we’ll head north on Dequindre to pick up the paved, mostly flat Shelby Township Hike & Bike Trail. This pedestrian and cycling thoroughfare runs parallel to 26 Mile Road and connects to Stony Creek Metropark. Distance: 2 – 3.5 miles.

 

April 22, 6pm: Nowicki & Tienken Road Parks, Rochester Hills Park on the north end of the Village of Rochester Hills mall (near Von Maur, formerly Carson’s), located on the northeast corner of Adams Road & Walton Blvd

We’ll head north on Adams to enter Eugene S. Nowicki Park, a mostly undeveloped city park

with grassy paths. From Nowicki, we’ll head west on Tienken Rd past Adams High School, to

visit another hidden nature park. Distance: 1.3 - 2.8 miles.

 

April 29, 6pm: James Nelson & Puffin Parks, Sterling Heights

2775 15 Mile Road (north side of 15 Mile, between Dequindre and Ryan)

Park in the first lot on your left at Nelson Park, then follow the path through the woods along

Big Beaver Creek. Call it a night right there or continue across 15 Mile to walk through the south side of Nelson Park and into the Puffin Park Nature Area. Distance: 1 – 2 miles.
